Description

Whole Food Plant Based Health Series:

Prescription for Healthy Living - 3 Courses to Change Your Health Destiny

Includes support documents, cooking demos, as well as recipes followed by a Q&A for each class.

A WFPB lifestyle aims to maximize the consumption of nutrient-dense plant foods while minimizing process foods, oils, and animal foods (including dairy products and eggs). It encourages lots of vegetables (cooked or raw), fruits, beans, peas, lentils, soybeans, seeds, and nuts (in small amounts) and is generally low in fat.

Research shows that plant-based diets are

  • cost-effective
  • a low-risk intervention (may lower blood pressure, HbA1C, and cholesterol levels)
  • increase weight loss
  • reverse many chronic diseases (diabetes II, high BP, heart disease, certain cancers, and autoimmune disease)
  • reduce the number of medications needed to treat chronic diseases and lower heart disease mortality rates.

Jeanne Schumacher, M.Ed, Ed.D has followed a plant-based diet since 2009. Her transformation to a healthier lifestyle began with a trip to the emergency room with uncontrolled high blood pressure and an unknown infection. Fortunately, the physician who attended her was not only trained in medicine, but also in nutrition. This doctor started her on a journey that would not only change her health destiny, but that of her husband as well. She has lost over 100 pounds (and has kept it off without dieting), and reversed many of the chronic health issues she and her husband had. They did it all by changing what was at the end of their forks!

She has a doctorate in science and education and has taught for over 35 years. She is passionate about making a difference in the lives of others and believes that food is the best medicine. Jeanne has successfully earned her Plant-Based Nutrition Certificate through Cornell - Center for Nutritional Studies and completed the Women’s Studies and Food Over Medicine program through the Wellness Forum.
