What a year 2019 has been. It came in with a pretty mild winter, not too many snowy mornings. There wasn’t much that seemed different about the start of the year. Kathy (my mom) was expecting her 4th grandchild in May and Leila (Amal’s mom) was enjoying her retirement and grandchildren as well. Kathy and Leila, along with their families were not expecting the news they got from their annual mammograms. Kathy in March and Leila in June, received that phone call that no woman ever wants to receive. “We need you to come in for an ultrasound, we think we see something.” Testing took place and testing confirmed, BREAST CANCER! We were sad, we were angry, we questioned everything, we were quiet, we laughed, we leaned on each other, we looked to friends, we found comfort in others experiences. That is why, today, two soul sisters, myself and my very wonderful, very strong, best friend Amal, want to dedicate this page and this race to our moms, Kathy and Leila - they are our ROCKS, our worlds, and deserve only bright sunny days ahead! 2020 will not be anything like 2019 so as we close out this year, we will stomp the gravel together on October 6th, fighting the terrible news that changed our worlds and changed our dialogue not too long ago, we will do this together! Join us — walk, run, stroll, donate, share, pray, or send positive thoughts and well wishes, anything helps skin this journey!
